Jackson, TN - Lambuth earned their first win of the season on Saturday against an old Mid-South conference rival Campbellsville with a score of 7-0. The score was just 1-0 at the half even with the Lady Eagles playing some great soccer. It was not until the second half that they really got going, putting six goals past, CU goalkeeper, A. Hartsock.
The first two goals of the game came with the help of Campbellsville as they scored two OG’s (Own Goals) to put Lambuth up 2-0. The Lady Eagles continued to pile the pressure on CU and it paid off when freshman, Megan Ladner finished from close range as the ball came back off the post. Ten minutes later sophomore, midfielder Jessie Metcalf sent in a low driven ball across the six yard box and sophomore, Karina Lasso made a late run to the back post and finished well for her first collegiate goal, a celebration followed!
The goals continued as with twelve minutes to go Junior, defender Clara Glueck played in a great ball to Junior, Lesley Thorpe who turned and finished well with her left foot to the keepers near post. Less than three minutes later Lambuth pilled on the pressure once more and earned a corner, which was turned in by a CU player. It was freshman, Carolina Niembro who would have the final say as she found herself in space outside the box, beat an approaching defender and sent the ball into the top right corner, leaving the CU goalkeeper helpless.
The Lady Eagles will host conference rivals Trevecca at Lambuth on Tuesday September 18, at 2pm.
