When you shoot just 16% (7-43) from the field in the first half and only trail by two at the break, you have to feel things will get better. That's what happened Saturday afternoon in Pensacola, FL as the Lambuth Lady Eagles overcame a poor shooting day and a 18-16 halftime deficit to win their fifth straight game by beating West Florida 53-50.
Lambuth trailed 29-26 with 14 minutes left but ripped off seven straight points to lead 33-29. They never trailed again. The Lady Eagles pushed the lead out to eight at one time and then literally held on to win. UWF missed a three-point attempt at the buzzer which would have sent the contest to overtime.
LaTonya McKinney hit two big free-throws and then a basket with just six seconds left to lead the Lady Eagles to their sixth win this season over a Gulf South Conference team. McKinney finished with 11 points, 17 rebounds and five assists. Daumonique Lenhardt led Lambuth with 15 points while Jenee Webb had 12 points, all of those in the second half. The 17 rebounds by McKinney is the most ever in one game by a Lambuth guard.
Lambuth shot just 28% from the floor and was 4-of-21 from behind the three-point arc. Lambuth attempted 30 more shots than UWF.
Lambuth (14-7) returns home Thursday night to face North Alabama. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. The action can be heard on WIGH, 88.7 and at
