Eagles celebrate after two game sweep

Chatanooga, TN - The Eagles baseball team traveled to Chattanooga to take on Tennessee Temple University at the Historic Engle Stadium. For those that do not know the famous Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig both played in Engle Stadium.

The Eagles scored early and often as they were held to no runs in only three innings all day. The scoring started in the first inning of the first game when Mike Davis drove in both Mitch's to make the score 2-0. The score would be 3-0 after the second when Bart White drove in Mitch McClay with a double. Lee Kimbell would single in the third and would score the very next batter when Matt Bird hit a double. With the score 4-0 in the top of the fourth, Davis would walk and would score on a Kimbell single up the middle.
 
The Crusaders would score their lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning and Mike Nitsos would score in both the sixth and seventh innings to make the final score of 7-1. Offensively the Eagles were led by Bart White and Lee Kimbell who each had three hits. Davis and Nitsos added two hits apiece and Kimbell drove in two.

Brent Ebinger notched his team leading fourth win as he threw his third complete game of the season. Ebinger (4-1) went seven innings giving up one run on six hits while striking out ten and issuing no free passes.

Game two started as Lambuth put five runs on the board and the first six hitters reached base via a hit or walk. Mike Davis, Bart White, Matt Bird and Kirk Waligora all had RBI singles, while Brent Young collected an RBI via a walk. Tennessee Temple would cut the lead to 5-1 when they scored in the bottom of the first. Nobody scored in the second and third innings, but the Eagles would strike in the fourth when Brent Young singled in White and Mike Nitsos. Young would later score on a Waligora double. Nick Batts led off the fifth with a base hit and scored on a Nitsos single to make the score 9-1 after the fifth. In the top of the sixth Waligora and Batts would single and both scored on a White single. The Crusaders would score two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth to avoid the ten run rule. With the score 11-3, Lambuth added five more in the top of seventh for the final of 16-3.

In the second game of the double header a lot of Eagles contributed. Mitch Thomson had two hits and scored two runs, while Mitch McClay had two hits and scored one. Nick Batts added two hits and three runs while Mike Davis had three hits and two RBIs. Bart White went 4-4 and drove in five runs. Kirk Waligora went 5-5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. The 2-3-4-5 hitters for the Eagles in game two went 14-16 and scored 10 runs.

Alex Laabs collected the victory going six innings. Laabs (2-0) gave up three runs (one earned) on seven hits and struck out seven, but walked four. Laabs gave way to Zach Hurdt in the seventh who went 1-2-3 with a groundout, strikeout and flyout.

The Eagles moved their record to 16-4 and will return home to take on Christian Brothers University at 1:00 on Sunday. We hope to see you all at the ballpark!!!
