Jackson, TN - The Lambuth Baseball team was averaging just over ten runs a game heading into Fridays game against Asbury College. On Friday afternoon they could only muster up two runs. The Eagles did have eleven hits, but most were with two outs and nobody in scoring position.
Asbury would score in the top of the second inning and would be answered right back by Lambuth in the bottom half. Kirk Waligora hit a two-out base hit to drive in Brent Young who had also singled. Asbury would score again in the top of the third and again in the fifth to expand their lead to 3-1.
The Eagles would cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the seventh when Matt Bird led the inning off with a single. Pinch runner Nick Batts would advance to second on a groundout and to third on a Mitch McClay single. Mike Davis would deliver with two outs to score Batts and make the score 3-2. That is all the offense either team would manage the rest of the game with Asbury taking game one 3-2.
Michael Panthofer threw eight solid innings for the Eagles. Panthofer (3-1) gave up three runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking none. Erin Keel threw a 1-2-3 ninth to give the Eagles a chance in the bottom.
Lambuth will look to regain the winning momentum tomorrow as they will face Asbury in a doubleheader starting at 12:00. We hope to see you all at the ballpark!!
