
Jackson, TN - The 2010 Lambuth Eagles baseball team is scheduled to play fifty-four games this season and at the halfway point have compiled a 22-5 record. The first half has seen the Eagles go 14-3 against NAIA competition and 8-1 against DII teams. The second half of the season will consist of more DII games starting this weekend as Lambuth travels to Livingston, Alabama.
Jordan Smith collected his fifth win of the season going two innings and striking out two. Zachary Hurdt went the third and fourth innings giving up two hits and striking out two. Bart White finished the game pitching a 1-2-3 fifth striking out one.
Game two was complete opposite as the game was very close up until the very end. Mitch McClay and Mike Davis hit back-to-back doubles in the first for a Lambuth 1-0 lead. In the third inning the Eagles would add another run as McClay hit his second double of the game which would score Mitch Thomson. Rust would put up a fight as they put up three unearned runs in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. The Eagles responded right back in the bottom half of the inning as Davis drove in Thomson with his second double of the game.
The game would stay tied until the Eagles hit in the bottom of the sixth. Mike Nitsos led the inning off with a single and advanced to second on a push bunt base hit by Brent Young. Lee Kimbell followed with a drag bunt base hit to load the bases and after a pitching change Will Wakefield walked to bring in the winning run. Mitch McClay would double to score two more and Davis would single to drive in the final two runs of the game as the Eagles won 8-3.
Ryan Adams threw the first three innings striking out two and walking one. Matt Fike threw the next three giving up three unearned runs on six hits while striking out two. Erin Keel wrapped the game and day with a 1-2-3 inning striking out the last two.
The Eagles will leave on Friday to travel to Livingston, Alabama to take on West Alabama University in a three game series. The doubleheader will be on Saturday starting at 3:00 PM. The single game will be on Sunday. We hope to see you all at the ballpark!!
