Jackson, TN - Lambuth’s six game unbeaten run finally came to end yesterday against local in-town rival Union University.

A crowd of, well over, 1,000 people were treated to an entertaining, highly competitive college soccer match up.

With little offense, neither team was able to break the deadlock by half-time, but the game burst to life in a bizarre 2-minute period in the second half.

In the 52nd minute a long-range effort from Union bounced off the post and found it’s way into the net. Two minutes later Union secured the win with a well-worked free kick to put them up 2-0. With plenty of time left on the clock, however, Lambuth pushed forward to get back into the game but a quick-counter attack resulted in a penalty-kick, which Union converted.

Lambuth may have been down but the Eagles never stopped. Despite out-shooting Union 14-6 in the second half, Lambuth couldn’t find a way past an inspired Union keeper. With six minutes remaining Paul Pinter added a consolation.
The 3-1 loss brings Lambuth’s overall record to 7-3 and leaves the team at 4-1 in conference play. Lambuth travels to Milligan College, Friday October 5th at 6:00pm.
Coach’s Comments: “Despite the result, this game was a great advertisement for soccer in this area. The players and the fans were great. We’re extremely disappointed to lose, but this league is extremely competitive and tonight Union did what was needed. However, our lads didn’t stop and that’s a great quality. We’ll learn from this and hopefully it’ll make us better.
