Swimming against four other schools that are way out of your league can be an overwhelming experience but the Swimming Eagles proved Sunday that it can also push one into bigger and faster things.
They didn't want to swim it but Coach Thauer required them to swim the 200 Medley Relay yesterday at the Delta State Christmas Invitational Swim Meet. Now, the Lady Eagles have four new best times and hopefully more self confidence in their abilities.
Because the usual Breaststroker was unable to be at the meet, all the women had to be shuffled from their usual strokes into strokes they were not used to swimming, for the greater good of the team. Starting with Hannah Burch who swam her best 50 Back time ever, the Eagles rose to the occasion. Andrea Mason pulled out a 35.11 in the Breaststroke - an event she almost never swims. Lore' Spencer swam a 30.91 Butterfly - the fastest Butterfly of her life. Kimberly Bridgman finished out the relay with a 50 Freestyle of 32.10 which was a college career best for her too.
Kimbrerly and Hannah both achieved college career bests in the 200 Freestyle. Kimberly went 2:49.40 and Hannah went 2:58.52 breaking the 3 minute barrier. Best times were not limited to the ladies however as JW Hunt achieved a college best time of 1:10.20 in the 100 Breaststroke.
Events on Monday include the 100 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke and 200 Breaststroke. The 400 Free Relay is also on Monday, and it shall be another event in which the Eagles are greatly stretched.
