Jackson, TN – Lambuth University has appointed Ken Brown, Deputy Athletic Director for Ball State University, as its new Athletic Director. In this position, he will be responsible for advancing the comprehensive athletic program that Lambuth University offers (men’s baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming, and tennis – women’s basketball, cross country golf, soccer softball, swimming, tennis, and volleyball – co-ed cheerleading and dance team).
Brown began his career in athletic administration in 1982 as the ticket manager for the Louisville Redbirds, a minor league baseball team. From 1983-91, he was the director of ticket operations at the University of North Carolina.
From there, he moved to Ball State in Muncie, Indiana, where he held progressively more responsible positions furthering the Ball State athletic program for seventeen years. Most recently he served as Deputy Athletic Director, responsible for Ball State’s athletic program consisting of approximately 75 full time employees, 19 sports programs, and over 400 student-athletes.
Of the appointment, Dr. R. Fred Zuker, President of Lambuth University, stated, “We are excited to have Ken Brown join our university. He is an outstanding individual who has a record of remarkable success with his athletic administrative endeavors. Administration is truly the ultimate team sport, and his experience with building and motivating coaches and players in the areas of athletics and academics will be a key ingredient in moving Lambuth’s program forward.”
“My family and I are thrilled to be coming to Lambuth and are looking forward to being part of the Lambuth family,” commented Brown in regard to his new role. “We are excited and cannot wait to join the entire athletic staff, faculty, and other Lambuth staff members. We are also excited about living in the great city of Jackson.”
He received his bachelor's degree from Eastern Kentucky University and earned master's degrees from Xavier and Ohio universities. Brown is married to the former Mary Sue Tedesco and has seven children, three sons and four daughters.
Lambuth University is affiliated with the United Methodist church, and was founded in 1843. In the ensuing years, Lambuth has earned a reputation as one of the South’s premier liberal arts universities, and has received national recognition as one of the Nation’s “Top 250 Liberal Arts Colleges” by U.S. News & World Report, and as one of the nation’s “Top 100 Outstanding Colleges” by The Washington Post.
