Monday night's doubleheader tips off a huge week of basketball for the Lady Eagles and Eagles of Lambuth.
The Lady Eagles and Eagles will host Blue Mountain. Tip-off for the women's contest is 6 p.m.with the men's game to follow.
The Lady Eagles have not played since December, 15, when they trounced Temple Baptist 81-14.
The Eagles are coming off an impressive 85-70 road win at Crichton Saturday.
Coach Joe Reints and his team are looking forward to open up conference action Monday. " We are anxious to get back to play. We opened up 1-4 against some tough opponents but have bounced back to win seven in a row. I was pleased the way we played just before the holidays. The two wins in the Campbellsville Classic were quality wins against two very good teams who I expect to see in Jackson in March. We have been working hard and need to regain that focus we had before the break. We have to do all of the little things to be successful. Blue Mountain has really improved. They had a great chance to upset Cumberland Saturday. They will come in and play with confidence, so we need to be ready. We need our fans to be there to support us. Our students will not be back until later in the week but we still hope to have a huge and vocal crowd."
The Lady Eagles, riding a seven game win streak are 8-4 on the year. This will be Lambuth's first conference game of the year. Donna Lavea leads Lambuth in scoring and rebounding. Lavea averages 19 points per game and almost 10 boards per contest.
Blue Mountain is 4-8 and 0-1 in conference play after the heartbreaking 86-85 home loss to Cumberland University.
The Eagles are coming off a huge road win in downtown Memphis Saturday. The 85-70 win over Crichton moves Lambuth to 9-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Five Eagles scored in double figures with Jeremy Weddle scoring 17 to lead the way. Lambuth shot 54% from the field and hit nine three-point field goals. The Eagles out rebounded the Comets, 33-26. The Comets entered the game as the third best rebounding team in the nation.
Coach Kevin Burton said, " I was pleased with our defensive effort. We knew going into the game we had to battle them on the boards. We did just that. Everyone played well. Corey Webster is a good example, he came off the bench and gave us a big lift in the first half. This is a good group of guys who really pick each other up doing practice andduring the games. We know Blue Mountain is a new team but we respect them and know they will come into our place hoping to pull an upset. We will need to be ready."
The action Monday does set the stage for a huge week for both Lambuth squads. Thursday night , Lambuth will host Freed-Hardeman and Saturday both teams travel to Union.
The Lady Eagles tip-off against the Lady Lions at 6.p.m., with the Eagles facing the Lions at 8 p.m.
The Lady Eagles play arch-rival Union Saturday at Union at 2 p.m. with the men's game tipping off at 4 p.m.
