The Lambuth Swimming Eagles started their new year off with a meet against Rhodes and the men appear eager to join the women at the National Championship in San Antonio this spring.
In spite of a hard week of practice and in spite of the fact that they just came off of Christmas Break, both JW Hunt and James Dozier swam quite well yesterday. Hunt swam 2 very close events, achieving best times in both. In the 50 free, Hunt swam a 24.83, placing a close 3rd to Rhodes' Tyler Schultz' 24.03. In the 100 Free, Hunt swam a 56.38, another best time, placing right behind Rhodes' 3rd placed Gavin Franks' 56.30. Hunt, who was one of Lambuth's star soccer players this year, just returned to swimming this November after a 4 plus year hiatus. He is an excellent athlete and has a lot of swimming talent. Hunt has the skill, the attitude, and drive that give him the potential to become much faster than he is already. If he continues in this fashion, he will likely make the National Qualifying Time in at least 2 events this year, maybe even 3.
Other highlights of the Rhodes Meet are: James Dozier - Best Time in the 100 Free, 1:06.46, the Women's 200 Medley Relay Team - Andrea Mason, Ashlee David, Lore' Spencer and Kimberly Bridgman - Best Time of 2:10.39 (so close to National Qualifying Time of 2:09.97) Hannah Burch - Best Time in the 200 Free, 2:58.14.
Upcoming events - NAIA National Rankings are due out Wednesday. Saturday January 19th Meet at Delta State against UNO and Delta State.
