Hugh Freeze is ready to get started.

Lambuth University's new head football coach was introduced on campus at a Tuesday press conference, where he spoke about things to come.

"I wish we were practicing tomorrow," he said to a room full of Lambuth football players and team boosters.

"I'm excited. "It is something I want to be a part of."

Freeze replaces Vic Wallace, who took an administrative/fundraising position at the school after 15 years as head football coach.

Freeze comes from Ole Miss, where he served as an offensive assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for two seasons. Before that, he was a successful high school coach at Briarcrest in Memphis.

"We're going to push them harder than they've been pushed," Freeze said of his players. "We're about competing. We'll do it together."

Freeze introduced his wife and three daughters and talked about meeting with the football team prior to the press conference.

"There are no quick fixes. You'll see improvement," said Freeze, who spoke for about 13 minutes. "They're hungry to do things the right way. They're hungry to win games. They're hungry to represent this university."

Wallace called Freeze "the new future of Lambuth University" before new athletic director Ken Brown introduced Freeze.

"They've got a great one here," Wallace said.
