Jackson, TN - Dr. R. Fred Zuker, the seventh president of Lambuth University, released the following statement on Wednesday February 6, 2008 in regards to the storms that effected the Jackson Community and specifically Union University on February 5, 2008.

"To the Lambuth Community:

Tuesday Jackson, Madison County was hit with a devastating series of storms. Union University sustained significant damage and many Union students were injured but were spared life-threatening trauma. The Lambuth campus was spared but our hearts and prayers are with all those who have suffered injury or loss in the wake of these frightening storms. We are offering any assistance that we can provide to assist Union during their recovery from the storm.

I want to thank all our faculty, staff and students who have volunteered to help Union. I am especially grateful to those students who prepared rooms and stood by to welcome any Union students who sought refuge on our campus. This effort is indicative of our student’s character and their generosity of spirit.

We are preparing methods by which our community may assist the Union community. We will be coordinating our efforts with the United Methodist Church, the Red Cross and other agencies to assist Union in their recovery efforts. Our Student Development staff will be working with Lambuth student organizations to direct our assistance to give best effect in the relief work.

We are planning a service of worship at noon on Thursday, February 7 in the R.E. Womack Chapel to thank God for sparing our campus and ask His mercy for all those touched by the storms.

Please keep the victims of the storm in your prayers. God bless our community.

Dr. R. Fred Zuker, President
Lambuth University"
