Lambuth knew going into Saturday's game at Cumberland University it would take a poised effort to beat the Bulldogs. Knowing CU likes to slow the game down and use most of the shot clock , Lambuth kept their composure after falling behind 7-0 and tied the game at 13. It would be a nip and tuck affair with neither team gaining much of an advantage the remainder of the first half. The Eagles led 39-36 at the break. LU is 22-0 when leading at the half. Lambuth would outscore CU 48-38 in the second half and win 87-74.
The Eagles broke away from a tie at 65 on a three-point play from Trey Pearson and never trailed again. Pearson finished with a game high 18 points.Three other Eagles finished in double figures as Glen Dandridge scored 16,Corey Webster had 12 and Jeremy Weddle had 15 points.
Lambuth forced CU into 29 turnovers. The win avenges a home loss to CU and keeps Lambuth in sole possession of first place in the conference.
Coach Kevin Burton said, " We are really happy to beat this very talented team. They test you with their style of play. They like to use a lot of the clock and you have to pressure them and make them uncomfortable. I thought we did a good job of that. The 29 turnovers was the key.Several players hit some big shots. I thought the three pointer A J hit was huge."
After playing seven games in the first sixteen days of the month the Eagles will not play again until Thursday when they travel to Mid-Continent for a 8 pm tip-off. Mid-Continent upset Lambuth back in January 72-70.
