The Lambuth University Eagles moved on to the TranSouth Conference Tournament title game against Trevecca Tuesday night by beating Cumberland University Saturday night at the Athletic Center, 88-65. A 17-6 run by the Eagles after the game was tied at 32 allowed Lambuth to enjoy a 49-38 halftime lead. The Eagles have not lost a game all season when leading at the break. Lambuth is 27-0 when leading at halftime.
Lambuth's Glen Dandridge put on a first half show by scoring 20 of his 22 points in the first stanza. Dandridge's parents were in attendance after making the 12 hour drive from Goochland, VA and their son rewarded them with a great display of shooting as he hit five three-point field goals in the half.
It was the 28th time Lambuth has scored 80 or more points in a game. The Eagles are 27-1 in those contests.
Jeremy Weddle continued his great play with 17 points, six rebounds and three steals. Corey Webster and Trey Pearson both added 15 points as Lambuth improved to 28-3 on the year. The # 3 Eagles are 42-3 at home in the past three seasons.
Coach Kevin Burton said, " We played with a lot of emotion and desire tonight. We prepared very well and followed our game plan. Glen was great but our balance is working well for us. We hope to keep that up and will have to do just that to beat a great Trevecca team."
The Eagles will meet Trevecca Tuesday night at the Athletic Center for the tournament championship. Game time is 7p.m. Lambuth beat the Trojans twice during the regular season. The Eagles won in Nashville 90-84 and then beat # 19 Trevecca 81-74 in Jackson.
All Lambuth fans are encouraged to be there to support the Eagles. Lambuth students are on spring break . Coach Burton addded, " Our crowd was unbelieveable Saturday night. Our entire team is grateful for the support. With our students gone our fans made a difference,"
