Henry Sanchez was 3-5 in Lambuth's 10-5 victory over Belmont University
Nashville, TN – The Lambuth Eagles baseball team made it a season sweep of Division I competition on Tuesday when they beat Belmont University 10-5 in a non-conference game held at Greer Stadium in Nashville, TN. Earlier in the season the Eagles beat UT Martin in Martin, TN 11-6. The Eagles are 2-0 against NCAA Division I opponents and 1-1 against NCAA Division II opponents with two NCAA opponents left to play.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Ryan Concannon hit a sacrifice fly that would score Ben White. Belmont did not waste much time answering as they put up two runs off Lambuth starter Travis Humes.

Lambuth went with an unusual approach to the pitching rotation on Tuesday throwing nine different pitchers, each one throwing one inning. In the second inning Dylan McCurry gave up two runs, one earned as Belmont took a 4-1 lead. Lambuth would cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the fourth when Brandon Craig drove James Poole in with a sacrifice fly of his own.

In the fifth the Eagles would chase Belmont starter Nate Woods when they scored four runs. Henry Sanchez led the inning off with a single and advanced to third on a Mike Davis double. Concannon's groundout would score Sanchez and Davis would score on a wild pitch to knot the game at four. Later in the inning with two outs, Bryan Willsey would hit an RBI double, driving in James Poole, and would score when the Belmont right fielder misplayed Brad Barnes line drive. At the end of five Lambuth would lead 6-4 and never look back.

Erin Keel, Josh Barnes, Matt Riley and Kory Bates would all pitch one inning and hold the Bruins scoreless. Lambuth would score two runs in the sixth inning on RBI singles by Poole and Craig. Leading 8-4, Matt Fike would give up one run in the seventh inning on a Brandon McCall double, his second of the game.

Tyler Burke and Brent Ebinger would close out the final two innings allowing no runs and the Eagles would add insurance runs in the eighth and ninth to make the final score of 10-5.

Josh Barnes (1-1) collected the win for the Eagles and Nate Woods (0-2) suffered the loss for the Bruins. Offensively for the Eagles Henry Sanchez was 3-5 with two runs scored and Mike Davis was 2-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Lambuth will take the field again on Friday at 2:00 at Lambuth Field. The Eagles will start the last part of the conference season as they take on Crichton College of Memphis, TN. Hope to see you all at the ballpark!!
