Jackson, TN – The toughest week of the season for the Eagles baseball team did not start the way they wanted. Lambuth coming off a three game sweep of Crichton College over the weekend did not take any days off and headed to the University of West Alabama on Monday. West Alabama is the 19th ranked team in NCAA Division II.

After six innings of play the Eagles saw themselves down 11-1. Slow starts after long road trips seem to be the MO for Lambuth this season. The only bright spot in the first two-thirds of the game was Mike Davis' team leading eighth home run in the first inning to give Lambuth a 1-0 lead.

UWA would score eleven unanswered runs, six in the second off of Lambuth starter Dan Robbins, three in the third and two in the fourth. The Eagles would start to claw back in the seventh when Henry Sanchez and Bryan Willsey were both issued free passes. Later in the inning Sanchez would score on a passed ball and Woods, who entered the game for Willsey, would score on a James Poole groundout. That would cut the UWA lead to 11-3. Another MO for the Eagles is big innings. Lambuth would have a big eighth inning and would put UWA on their heals. In the eighth inning Lambuth would collect four hits, three walks and take advantage of one UWA error to score six runs. Two RBI singles by Brad Barnes and Ben White highlighted the inning. In the bottom of the eighth UWA would add a run to make the score 12-9. The Eagles would keep the fans on the edge of their seats as Davis and Ryan Concannon walked to lead off the ninth bringing the tying run to the plate. Lambuth would be unable to inch any closer and dropped the contest 12-9. The Eagles just dug too big of a hole at the beginning of the game and the rally was shut down by some good pitching from UWA.

Mike Davis led the Eagles collecting three hits for the second consecutive game. Chris Siljendahl added multiple hits for Lambuth with two. Robbins (0-1) took the loss for the Eagles as UWA pitcher Brandon Dill gained the win to improve his record to 7-0.

On Wednesday, the Eagles looked to rebound as they headed to the University of North Alabama. UNA, like UWA is a NCAA Division II school. Again, the Eagles found themselves trailing 4-0 after five innings. In the top of the sixth Lambuth used one of it's big innings and rallied to take a 6-4 lead. In the sixth Lambuth used some power at the plate to notch the six runs. Brandon Craig hit a two-run home run, Henry Sanchez hit a RBI triple and Bryan Willsey blasted a two-run home run. For Willsey that is eight on the season, which ties him with Davis for the team lead. The Eagles held UNA scoreless in the seventh, but the Lions roared back in the seventh and scored six runs of their own to take a 10-6 lead. Lambuth tried to make a comeback in the ninth when Craig scored after a Mike Davis double and Lambuth had runners at first and second with the score 10-7. For the second time in as many games the Eagles had the tying run come to the plate in the last inning, but UNA closed them out and Lambuth lost it's second game of the week to a Gulf South Conference opponent.

Dylan McCurry (2-2) suffered the loss for the Eagles. Mike Davis, who collected three hits for the third straight game, led the Eagles offensively. Bryan Willsey was the only other Eagle with multiple hits adding two hits for the Lambuth lineup.

The Eagles, now 25-17 overall, head into the weekend ready to take on Freed-Hardeman. Both teams are tied for second in the TranSouth Conference with an 11-6 record. The double header will be played Friday starting at 12:00. Hope to see you all at the ballpark!!!
