Jackson, TN - Head Coach John Barlowe announced that four more high school seniors from the Middle Tennessee area have decided to continue their baseball careers at Lambuth University. Each one of these student/athletes will help solidify the foundation that has been built with Lambuth Baseball.
William Wakefield, who attends Smith County High School will bring much needed help to the Eagle pitching staff. Wakefield is 4-0 on the mound with a 2.4 ERA and has struck out 28 batters in 23 1/3 innings. Not only is William having success on the mound, but at the plate he is hitting .370 with 5 doubles, 1 triple and 2 home runs. William has driven in 17 runs and stole 19 bases. William is coached by Scott Pope at Smith County. William will be a great addition to the Lambuth Baseball family.
Darren King and Ben Howell will also join the Eagles in the fall and will be part of the Eagle pitching staff. Darren is from Nashville Christian School and Ben hails from Harpeth High School. Both are right handed pitchers that had sucessful high school careers.
Darren plays for Eric Fruechtemeyer at NCS and is the teams ace. Going into the post-season Darren carried a 7-1 record. Darren played for the Twitty City Knights during the summer keeps getting better year in and year out. Darren is the son of Roger and Terry King and the King family resides in Nashville, TN.
Darren King signs his Athletic Award Agreement while his parents,
Coach Barlowe and Coach Fruechtemeyer look on.
Benjamin Howell is the parents of Beal and Tammie Howell of Pegram, TN. Benjamin plays for Coach Ryan Philipp at Harpeth. Ben, like Darren, will be welcomed to Lambuth with open arms.
The final of the four signees is the lone position player of the group. Jeremy Worden of Donelson Christian Academy will come to Lambuth next fall not only to play baseball, but also will participate in football. Jeremy will be the first player under the Coach Barlowe era to be a two-sport athlete. Jeremy brings great speed to the team. In 19 games this spring Jeremy stole 12 bases. Speed is a trait that was lacking on the 2008 baseball squad and Jeremy will fill that great void. Jeremy is coached by John Berti at DCA.
Jeremy is with his new Head Coach, John Barlowe
Coach Barlowe commented on all four signees saying, "It is great to get more talent from the Middle Tennessee area. They play good baseball over there and when you mix the talent we have signed from West Tennessee and the Middle Tennessee kids, it should be a recipe for success. All four kids not only excel on the baseball field, but all four are very fine students and will have great success at Lambuth."
