Jackson, TN - Progress should be the key word for Lambuth Volleyball this season. The team has undergone many changes. Key players, including three time all-conference setter Carman Campbell, one time all-conference middle hitter Brittany Leeper and Elisa Galindo, have completed their eligibility. Amelia Rodgers, a starting right side hitter last season has moved on to pursue a different degree at another institution.
All of these athletes had an impact last season and will be missed.
However, recruiting has gone well. Impact players are coming in to fill the positions vacated. Many of these recruits are junior college transfers who can add valuable experience to the squad. Monica Braun, a junior middle hitter from Fullerton College in CA, will provide a potent hitting and blocking presence in the middle. Emma Johnson, a middle/right side hitter from South Mountain CC in AZ, will add depth and versatility to all front row positions. Christie Hartkopf, an outside/right side hitter from Sacramento City College, should add a great dose of all-around skills.
In addition to these transfer students, Coach Burnside was also able to add Jamie Fields, a quality all-state freshman from Collierville HS right here in TN.
Combining these recruits with starters Kathrine Leger, Lauren Trouy, Jessica Purinton, and Casey Slage returning from last season, should significantly change the team’s dynamics and chemistry.
Coach Burnside said, “ The athletic potential of this team should be beyond anything Lambuth has fielded in the past. This influx of talent is happening just in time too. The TranSouth Conference is making great strides in volleyball, and all teams seem to be investing more in their programs. The improvement has been dramatic. This season, Lambuth Eagle Volleyball is prepared for increasing challenges, and excited about new opportunities to compete at a high level and represent our university to the best of our abilities.”
