Willsey Hits Game Winner
Facing elimination the Lambuth Eagles fought back and stayed alive in the A.I.I. Conference Tournament in Houston, TX Friday afternoon with a 6-4 win over Thomas University. The Eagles scored two runs in the eighth inning to tie the game and then had a dramatic finish in the ninth to win.
Bryan Willsey hit a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence to send the Lambuth dugout into a frenzy Friday afternoon in Houston. Willsey, the senior outfielder from Fairfield, Ohio had three hits on the day.
Lambuth finished the day with seven hits. Derrick Green had two hits, one of those a single in the eighth to tie the game. Mike Davis hit a home run earlier in the contest, his 16th of the season.
Matt Riley was the winning pitcher with two solid innings to keep the Eagles close. Zach Hurdt pitched seven strong innings for Lambuth.
Coach John Barlowe commented on the win. " Our pitching kept us in it and then the bats came alive late. Some timely hitting and our defense were the keys along with Zach and Matt's pitching. It was a big win for us."
Lambuth will face the winner of the LSU-Alexandria-Houston-Victoria game tonight at 7 p. m.
