Coach Bill Burnside is set to enter his third season as the head coach of the Lambuth University volleyball team. Lambuth is coming off a 20-15 year in 2006.
Burnside has been involved with the sport of volleyball for over 20 years in various capacities. Prior to becoming the head coach at Lambuth, Coach Burnside spent seven years as an assistant coach at John A. Logan College in Carterville, IL. Working with Coach Fae Ragan, Bill helped John A. Logan compile a 148-50 record over his last four seasons. During this successful run, he helped lead them to two GRAC Championships and two NJCAA Region 24 Championships. John A. Logan also made two appearances at the NJCAA National Tournament (2000 and 2002).
In addition to collegiate coaching, Coach Burnside has organized and coached USAV juniors programs for local athletes and participated in summer volleyball camps at colleges throughout the state of Illinois. He has remained an active player since 1990 when he joined the USAV, and has served as a USAV Regional Referee.
Burnside received his B.A. degree in History from the University of Delaware (’91), and completed his Master’s degree in Physical Education at Southern Illinois University. He is married to the former Penny Shaffner of Carbondale, IL, and they currently reside in Humboldt, TN. The Burnside’s welcomed a new member to their team this year with the birth of daughter, Kara, who was born in March 2007.
