
Lambuth University begins the 2008 baseball season with new Head Coach, John Barlowe. Lambuth competes in the TranSouth Conference, arguably the best NAIA conference in the nation.
Prior to coming to Lambuth, in 2006, John was the manager of the Edmonton Cracker Cats of the Northern League. In 2005, John was hired as the hitting coach for that same Edmonton Baseball Club.
Before joining Edmonton in 2004, John managed the Shreveport Sports of the Central League to the playoff finals against Edinburg. John first joined Shreveport as the hitting coach in 2003.
John spent eight years as assistant coach at Vanderbilt University under retired Head Coach Roy Mewbourne. While at Vanderbilt, as the Recruiting Coordinator, John helped the Commodores land a 19th, 9th and 7th place recruiting class according to Baseball America. John recruited and coached former SEC All-American’s Glen Davis, Clinton Johnston, and Hunter Bledsoe, along with current major leaguer’s Josh Paul, Matt Kata, Jeremy Sowers, and Jenson Lewis.
Before coming to Vanderbilt, John was the Head Baseball Coach at Truett-McConnell Junior College in Cleveland, Georgia. While at Truett-McConnell, John’s career record was 102-48. He guided the Danes to three straight Georgia State tournament appearances.
John began his college coaching career under legendary collegiate Hall of Fame Coach, Jack Stalling. In 1990, the Georgia Southern Eagles won the TAAC Conference and earned a NCAA Midwest Regional bid at Wichita State. After defeating Wichita State in the finals, Georgia Southern earned a berth to the College World Series in Omaha.
During the summers of 1991-1997 John managed the Yarmouth Dennis Red Sox, of the prestigious Cape Cod League. He earned a career record of 120-148 as the Manager of the Red Sox. Prior to that John graduated from Appalachian State University where he was a two-time All-Southern Conference and All-South Region Player for the Mountaineers. John began his college playing career at Louisburg Junior College. In 1979, John helped to lead the Hurricanes to the Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. In 1982, John signed a professional contract with the Seattle Mariners.
John is a native of Lenoir, North Carolina and is married to the former Terri OgBurn of Charlotte, North Carolina. They have two daughters, Melissa 19, and Megan 10.
