Matt is a returning starter entering his junior season.  Matt has been a full time catcher in his career at Lambuth.  This is his third year at Lambuth University

Matt has had two solid years at Lambuth starting 29 of 53 games as a sophomore and appearing in four other games.  Matt had a good year behind the plate allowing only two pass balls.  As a freshman he started 43 of 55 games.  He wants to improve his skills with the bat while continuing to improve behind the plate in 2009.  Matt hopes to help his team to a 40+ win season while winning a conference title along the way.

Matt is originally from Lexington, Tennessee.  He was born to Robert Bird and Susan Melton.  He has one sister Jennifer Crownover.  Matt graduated from Lexington High School in 2006.  He hopes to graduate from Lambuth in 2010 with a degree in Business Management and a minor in International Business.
